What can I nominate?
Blue plaques are nominated by the people of NSW. We aim to recognise a wide range of people and events that have contributed to the rich and diverse heritage of our state.
All nominations undergo a thorough assessment process by the Blue Plaques team and independent historians. During this process, nominations are carefully assessed to ensure that each blue plaque:
- has an interesting story to tell about a real person, people or event that has made a lasting impact on a community in NSW, or the state as a whole
- can be installed at a location in NSW that is directly relevant to the story and is visible and accessible to the public
- is appropriate, sensitive, and engaging to a wide public audience
Not all nominations that pass our eligibility checks and historical fact checking processes receive a blue plaque.
Second nominations round
We received almost 120 nominations from the public in our second nomination round, which closed in late 2022. The final shortlist of successful plaques have just been announced and will be installed in early 2024.
If you made a nomination you should have already heard from us about the outcome of the initial eligibility assessment.
First nominations round
Over 700 nominations were submitted in our first nominations round in 2021. Successful nominations from this round were announced in 2022 and have already been installed. If you have any questions about a nomination from this round please get in touch.
